Many parents say that they would like to spend more time doing arts and crafts with their children, but they don\u2019t know where to start or how to find the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/Ao7g_a2MWD1v3LzgOZzmhA5IY05ICOB6mTr_8D1p26g1dDSw8WMyWFOeaxKia8AP-AA2SXABUoVgz_YNvpwvKqiBR-ptiTbSkg9zCQ_lzdrNblXEI3Q0An_zj8xWRdOgXMuCz6M\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve put together a selection of quick and easy craft ideas that <strong>aren\u2019t too difficult<\/strong> <strong>or too time-consuming and can be made using things that are easily found in and around the home<\/strong>. Although they are easy enough for children to do themselves, we encourage you to join in with them, especially if they involve using anything that may be dangerous, such as a cutter or scissors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you ready? Let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Mobiles made from recycled materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mobiles are <strong>really colourful and simple to make<\/strong>, and best of all, they can be made using waste materials and items that can be found easily around the home: plastic bottles, cans, CDs, old keys, sticks, toy soldiers, etc. Depending on the material you choose to create the shapes, t<strong>he possibilities are endless<\/strong>. The idea below uses plastic drinks bottles, cord and a small stick or rod to hang the shapes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/OTvUSIHdFGkBcBXiHYv3vPp3aorscOciiSxsrW5SRpcnDZaUCwN5JEikcsHCq58SOBbEhvjSAttx06UjC54mDmkrHM8AqrUgNAsf3iQJEP4NF8WIloSl0E8RpveWoIpbc6_PbX4\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take a thin, light wooden or metal rod and <strong>attach a piece of cord<\/strong> in the centre so you can hang up the mobile once it\u2019s finished.<\/li><li>Then take a plastic bottle and using a cutter, very carefully cut off the top and the base <strong>so you are left with a rectangle<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Now cut this into <strong>rectangular strips<\/strong> with scissors.<\/li><li>Make <strong>a hole<\/strong> at one end of each rectangle.<\/li><li>Thread a piece of cord through the hole in each piece, tie the end and then<strong> tie it <\/strong>onto the rod.<\/li><li>Repeat with each rectangular shape, trying to <strong>space them evenly along the rod<\/strong> so that they balance.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s it! Now all you have to do is <strong>hang it up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Pebble art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another activity that\u2019s very simple, <strong>but just as fun and imaginative<\/strong>, is creating art using pebbles or stones. As before, the variations and possibilities of what you can create are endless. For this idea, all you need are some <strong>flat<\/strong>, smooth stones, a piece of card, craft glue, a stick, some leaves and a felt tip pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/BItJoe8-V1mjWqMR8GDMMWs4dAYrkREvkQVAqfHyIuz5-CPy5mK32OaxB8HEl5X8S35SEzQj8glugWMoNP99zCpqWGbXgEHzBTtLlSKwC6AYkpBkD-QnFM7SPY8Ohqh6jB8BhOM\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>How to <strong>create your piece of pebble art<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Place the pebbles on the piece of card, above the stick. Add the leaves and <strong>try out different ways of arranging them<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Once you\u2019re happy with your creation, <strong>glue the pieces <\/strong>to the cardboard. Leave to dry.<\/li><li>Using the felt tip pen, draw on the beaks and feet, and anything else you want to add.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>See how easy it is to <strong>create a piece of artwork to decorate your home<\/strong>! Place the sheet in a glassless frame ready to hang on the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Tetra Pak houses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Painting is a great way to <strong>exercise smaller children\u2019s motor skills<\/strong>. This idea uses milk or juice cartons, non-toxic paints and felt tip pens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/KjEpS-wdUej8Y9Cd7Hb5rjnHYmmD2B-1mFtpMfFXEhFPFMl979R6c1b_vlPQtBrmdIcdFAceQtZWdN_xndXlnIDylgSfca5o6Xlbxz3vo5XIY9kgO9b11rYmJSZGl4O3KYYvbGA\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>How to make the houses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, <strong>wash <\/strong>the cartons and wait until they are completely dry.<\/li><li>Once the clean carton has dried, <strong>paint the entire surface white <\/strong>to cover any pictures and writing.<\/li><li>Leave to dry. <strong>Apply a second coat <\/strong>and leave to dry again.<\/li><li>Now it\u2019s time to \u201cbuild\u201d by <strong>painting on the windows and doors<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When the paint is dry, use the felt tip pen to <strong>add any further detailing<\/strong>, such as window frames or door handles.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Place several houses together on a piece of card and<strong> build<\/strong> <strong>an entire village!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Making bracelets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most <strong>popular activities<\/strong> to do with children at home is to thread beads onto cord to make bracelets, necklaces or other items such as Christmas tree decorations. There\u2019s a huge selection of beads to choose from for this type of activity made from a variety of different materials, for example, acrylic, wood, glass, metal, etc. Girls in particular, will love the idea of making their own jewellery, but that\u2019s not to say that boys can\u2019t enjoy this <strong>fun<\/strong> activity which is so easy to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All you need is an <strong>assortment of beads and an elastic cord<\/strong>. Simply, thread any combination of beads you like onto the cord.
